FRANKFORT, Ky. -- One bill up for consideration when lawmakers return to Frankfort on Tuesday, would help military veterans starting their own businesses.

Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes is backing a bill called "Boots to Business." It would waive start-up fees and four years of annual fees for veteran-owned businesses. She says this could help a lot of prospective business owners, since there are 330,000 veterans and 50,000 active duty military in Kentucky.

Grimes calls it a way for Kentucky to show the respect these men and women deserve. Similar legislation passed the House unanimously last year, but failed to clear the Senate.

The bill is sponsored by State Representative Jody Richards, a Democrat from Bowling Green.
