White House Steps Around Questions About NSA Leaker
Posted Monday, June 10th 2013 @ 2pm

(Washington, DC)  --  White House spokesman Jay Carney is stepping around specific questions about NSA leaker Edward Snowden.  Snowden, a private contractor working with the NSA, blew the whistle on a secret surveillance program that monitored phone and Internet traffic.  Carney noted that the case is being investigated.  Speaking broadly, Carney cited a need to strike a balance between national security and privacy rights.

Carney also called it an "absolutely appropriate subject for debate."  He argued that certain programs are classified to keep terrorists from crafting a roadmap or a playbook for future attacks.  He also insisted that there has been substantial communication with members of Congress about classified NSA programs.
