Health Insurance Will Be ‘Completely Unaffordable’ for Many Americans Next Year

What’s going on?

Ignore everything else for a moment and think about what 2018 will look like if half the country can’t afford insurance – and the Obamacare mandate is still in place.

Am I in trouble?

We all are. By 2018, premium rates will be “completely unaffordable” for many Americans, but the law will still require them to have insurance or pay a penalty.

Republicans promised to fix this. What are they doing?

Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Bill Cassidy (R.-La.) have been fighting for their plan to fix health care, which is known as the Graham-Cassidy bill. But the bill was declared politically dead over the weekend when Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said he would vote against it. Republicans can’t afford to lose more than two votes for the bill to pass in the Senate.

Glenn’s take:

“Let’s forget about all the political games for a second,” Glenn said. “If nothing gets done in the next five days, what happens?”

If you live in Wyoming, California, Florida, Texas, Georgia or another state with skyrocketing premiums, “you will expect to see a 50 percent increase in your premium for 2018,” Glenn said on radio Monday. For some states, the premium increase could be as high as 200 percent.
