Sen. Rand Paul Proposes Immigration Compromise to Reopen the Government

Senator Rand Paul is proposing a compromise to reopen the federal government.

Paul tells CNN's "State of the Union" his deal would promise Democrats a week of votes on immigration ending with some resolution for the so-called "Dreamers" illegally brought to the U.S. as children.

The Kentucky Republican says it's his belief the impasse that led to the government shutdown could end if Republicans were willing to offer a series of votes on immigration.

Paul says when he proposed this, "They were like, 'Oh, no we want guaranteed passage on a must-pass bill.'"

Paul says nobody gets a guaranteed passage. President Trump repealed DACA, or the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, last year, giving Congress six months to work out a deal to re-authorize the program
