Biden Asks States To Pay $100 To Residents Who Get Vaccinated

Just one day after NYC Mayor Bill deBlasio announced a new policy to give New York residents $100 for getting vaccinated, President Joe Biden called upon other state leaders to follow the Big Apple's lead...

It's all part of Biden's ongoing plan to boost the country's COVID-19 vaccination numbers.

“I know that paying people to get vaccinated might sound unfair to folks that have gotten vaccinated already but here’s the deal: if incentives help us beat this virus, I believe we should use them,” Biden said. “We all benefit if we can get more people vaccinated.”

"Today, the president is calling on state, territorial, and local governments to provide $100 payments for every newly vaccinated American as an extra incentive to boost vaccination rates, protect communities, and save lives," reads a statement released on Thursday by the U.S. Department of Treasury. "Treasury stands ready to give technical assistance to state and local governments so that they may use the funds effectively to support increased vaccination in their communities."

Currently, about 57.1 percent of Americans are fully vaccinated, data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveals.

“With incentives and mandates, we can make a huge difference and save a lot of lives,” Biden said.
