Glenn Honors One of America’s First Civil Rights Leaders

Today is Martin Luther King Day, a day when Americans celebrate the life and achievements of the late great civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a who was most well known for his non-violent campaign for racial equality in the United States.

On his show today, Glenn honored another of history’s champions for social and political equality for black Americans: Booker T. Washington. Born a slave, Washington rose to become one of the most influential African American leaders of the late 19th century. In 1901, Washington published “Up from Slavery” an autobiography which chronicles more than 40 years of his life.

“It’s not a message for black people or white people. It’s a message for people,” said Glenn of Washington’s autobiography. Watch the video clip above to hear Glenn break down the “hiSTORY” of Booker T. Washington and his extraordinary biography, “Up from Slavery.”
