Kevin Hart Steps Down As The Oscars Host

Kevin Hart

Just hours after being announced as the host of the 2019 Oscars, Kevin Hart announced he will no longer host the event after criticism over previous jokes he made about gay people.  He announced his decision on Twitter last night, writing, "I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing artists."  He also apologized and said he is evolving and wants to continue to do so.  The Oscars take place on February 24th.  The Academy has not announced a replacement host.
