President Donald Trump recently indicated that it is "highly unlikely" he will dismiss Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, even after discussing the possibility with Republican representatives. The discussions come amid ongoing pressure on the central bank regarding its monetary policies.
“I don’t rule out anything but I think it’s highly unlikely unless he has to leave for fraud,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
Although President Trump has often criticized the Federal Reserve's interest rate decisions, he has not taken any formal steps to remove Powell from his position. The President's comments suggest a potential shift in his approach, as he acknowledged the importance of stability within the central bank.
Despite the discussions with GOP representatives, no official actions have been initiated, and it remains to be seen whether any further developments will occur. The Federal Reserve continues to operate independently, focusing on its mandate to manage inflation and employment levels.
