The grandmother of an 11-year-old girl who gave birth at her family's home in Muskogee, Oklahoma, has been charged with six counts of felony child neglect. Michelle Justus, the maternal grandmother, is accused of knowing about the pregnancy and failing to report it to authorities, according to the Muskogee County District Attorney’s Office.
The 11-year-old girl gave birth to a full-term baby on August 16. She was later taken to the hospital after allegedly hemorrhaging, where emergency medical services personnel cut the umbilical cord. DNA testing confirmed that the girl's stepfather, Dustin Walker, is the father of the baby, with a 99.9% match.
Dustin Walker faces charges of child sexual abuse and neglect, while Cherie Walker, the girl's mother, is charged with enabling child sexual abuse. Both are being held on a $100,000 bond. According to KSBI, Justus is in custody on a $75,000 bond.
Assistant District Attorney Janet Hutson stated, "It is a tragedy that an 11-year-old child was raped and had to give birth at home with absolutely no medical attention whatsoever." The 11-year-old and her five siblings have been removed from the Walkers' home. A preliminary court date has been set for November 24.
