Trump supporters argue that it is a prudent move, the current Air Force One is old, and Boeing is way behind on the replacement that was ordered in 2018 and promised to be delivered in 2024. Qatar is offering a free replacement plane while Boeing gets their act together, providing the POTUS with a new plane without charging the taxpayers. Trump also clarified that the plane would not be donated to him, but to the Pentagon, and that he would not use it after he leaves office.

Critics, including Democrats and some allies like Laura Loomer, slam the entire situation as a violation of the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause, citing potential foreign influence and security risks, especially given the Trump Organization’s $5.5 billion Qatar deal.
