Extra: What You Don’t Know About the Declaration of Independence

Happy Fourth of July! Earlier this week, as the country prepared to mark America’s 250th anniversary, we wanted to take a deep dive into the document that all the celebration is about: The Declaration of Independence. Adopted unanimously by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, the document announced that the Founding Fathers saw the Thirteen Colonies as sovereign states and were no longer subject to British colonial rule. Since then, it has become one of the most influential documents in history. However, there is so much you probably don’t know about it. That’s why this week on the FOX News Rundown, we spoke with Ray Raphael, a historian and author of several books about our founding, including “A People's History of the American Revolution: How Common People Shaped the Fight for Independence.” Raphael discusses the challenges and debates the Founders faced while drafting the document, as well as some unusual facts about that period and those who signed it. We often must cut interviews short during the week, but we thought you might like to hear this conversation in full. Today on the Fox News Rundown Extra, we will share our entire conversation with Ray Raphael so you can learn even more about the Declaration of Independence and the significance of celebrating America 250.
